We've made it!

Well, we have finally made it to El Salvador! We arrived this afternoon at around 2:30 (El Salvador is an hour behind Ohio in the winter and 2 hours behind in the summer). Robin, a missionary from the US who has been serving with Harvesting in Spanish (AKA HIS), came to pick us up. She took us out to eat at a very nice restaurant and then took us to our new home for the next year. HIS is located on 3 acres of gated campus. The orphanage is actually several buildings spread out over the campus. The kids are split up according to age and gender. There are about 70 children living in the orphanage right now, with the newest child just arriving 2 weeks ago. The children are brought to the orphanage by the local government, friends, family, and some of them are even found and brought to the orphanage by HIS staff. Robin gave us a tour of the campus and my heart about broke when I went into the home for children 2 and under. It was a large room with lots and lots of little cribs. All of the children were running around, except for one little baby, who was a new child to the orphanage, and he was sleeping in his crib. All of the kids are very nice and well behaved.

The most exciting part of our day came when we were taken to our apartment! WOW!! It is soooooooo nice. We never expected such a nice home. It is like a full sized regular house. We have a living room (with brand new furniture and tv), a full sized kitchen with all modern appliances, dining area, a large bedroom with a walk in closet, 1 1/2 bathrooms (with hot water), and a washer and dryer! Yahoo! This place is nicer than our home we had in Ohio. They even stocked the fridge for us with plenty of Pepsi and chocolate cookies (God is so good, ha, ha).

After we got settled into our apartment we ate dinner in the dining hall (beans, rice, cheese, and tortillas). Then, we played some basketball with the kids. It really looks like we are going to enjoy our time of service here with HIS. But, even though things are good here, we still miss you all TREMENDOUSLY! I cannot tell you how much I miss you all already. Everyone is going to be so sick of hearing about the senior high youth, because we have talked about you all so much already. We love you all and we promise to keep in touch.

Lots of love,
Britney
